seatbelt retractors

Hello everyone,

96 LE 165K 5SFE

Im having a weak retractor coil spring issue with my drivers seatbelt. It just doesnt want to pull back;If it is pulled out to the limit,it will go back a bit,but still not all.

The seatbelt still works(as scientifically observed with the yank test....).

I have broken up a 92 rolla belt(those were the double belts) to fix a malfunctioning switch,so I know how these things work....

What are my options now...How much do these usually go for? can they be pulled from a junkyard?

Im planning to sell the car and I want to steer clear of liability issues....

thanks,
keba

as long as you tell the person before buying it then ur free of liability. but yeah u should be able to just find one at a junkyard. id say about 50-70 bucks from a dealership parts depot.

50-70 bucks eh? not too bad...

also, if I advice the buyers to get it inspected from a mechanic ,would that release me from future issues?

Im not trying to hide anything here...Im just saying ,I know baout this seatbelt thing already, so they will know that, but if something else fails later and they come back to say that Id idnt warn them....etc..

You could get a signed release from the buyer. Have you tried cleaning the belt and I've also seen posts on taking it apart and winding the belt another round or two to increase tension.

My seatbelt retractors work great...in the summertime. But when it is cold outside, you have to feed the belt back into the slot, sometimes inch by inch to keep from smashing the door onto the belt clasp.

I have seen brand new OEM belts for $100. Might do the job myself in the summer time.

I will get the signed release form, but i wanted to fix this myself.I have had to re-wind and tension up a spring in my rolla, and it was not fun...at all....

steve97 ,I have the exact same issue,Mine wont even go up a bit,and I have to feed them back manually...

I will call my local strip joint and see what they can do....

thanks,
keba
