3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
i personally dont, but a buddy of mine has one on his 5 speed stang and it works great. i think the company is like cobra or somthing. with his it would not start the car if it was in gear.
If i really wanted this i think i would have to bypass the clutch switch (the switch that wont let power get to the battery if the clutch isnt pressed down). and THEN u gotta remember to leave it in neutral all the time when you leave the car. Otherwise, well, you could be in big trouble if you forgot you left it in gear that day and went to use your remote starter.
A bit off topic, but our 99 4Runner 5-spd has a button you can press to start the car without the clutch depressed, I wonder if that would make it easier to install a remote starter...
most remote starters for manual tranny's, from what i've read have something to bypass the clutch having to be pushed in, and something to make sure its not in gear, and then something on the ebrake to make sure its on. or it wont start.
back to what I said, I am pretty sure that I have read a few article on this and that places dont want the liability to factor in with this because of a car being remotly started and jumping into gear
here in australia we cannot legally fit them at all, (i'm an alarm fitter)
but yes on a manual i'd want a handbrake hookup and someway of telling the vehicle is in neutral, i've seen a pretty elaborate micro switch setup on a car to cut the start process if it was in gear ( 6 switches so the lever rested on each one in each gear ,5 and reverse)
there are also systems with some sort of setup system that you do when you aprk the car , i think this is the link http://www.autoalarmpro.com/remote_starter_for_m_t
man, this seems like more work than its worth, i'll just walk the 50ft to my car and start it myself haha. i might just stick with an alarm and keyless entry.

haha yes it might be easier in the long run, there may be easier ways of doing it, i've never fitted one as they're illegal here. they're a pretty easy fit to an automatic though.
