Question HELP 93 camry power surging ? low idle

Hey all. ok im going to do my best in describing my problem in hopes that someone out there can help me in fixing my car issue. i have a 93 v6 camry. ok so every once in a while my car will power surge and sometimes hesitate. it doesnt happen all the time maybe like once a week but anyways it only does it when you first start to accelerate. today my husband was messing around with it and just tapping on the gas pedal and letting up really quick and it would power surge and act up. also every once in a while it will idle low at about 500- 600. now other than that the car runs great. we do need a new o2 sensor so im not sure if that could be causing the power surging or not. we live on a very limited income and this is our only car so im desprate to get the problem fixed before it gets to big. also is it a possibility that the timing belt or accessory drive belt could be doing this? the only reason i ask about those two parts is we recently took it in for an oil change and they told us we needed to get those replaced. anyways help me !!!!!!!

thanks

-sara

Might be the MAP sensor if a hesitation problem. Not sure if you can clean these with spray on Seafoam. Perhaps other members could voice in. Might not hurt to run a few a few bottles of injector cleaner through the gas tank. There is also a switch condition signal circuit that can cause both of your issues. It tells the computer if the trans is in Drive, A/C on and throttle position.

If the problem becomes more pronounced the computer may store a trouble code. This year of car has a self-contained on-board code readout system.

For details of this and more download the appropriate service manual at the link below:

Could be the Throttle position sensor, on one of my car it had a "rough spot". It usto jump around at idle, like in stop and go traffic where you just press on the gas lightly. It also had a "rough spot" at high speed, don't remember exact at what speed it was, something between 55-70. It had like a flat point and when the car speed usto reached that point the car usto jerk back and forth. If that happens to be your case you can replace it yourself, but it might need to be calibrated with a volt meter to something like 0.5v between two cables when you put the new one in. ( this was back in early 90's, don't remember all the details) ...Can someone else back that up?
Second guess: might be the MAF sensor, with a volt meter you can test for resistance, you will need to know which pins to measure the resistance at.

Good Luck.

Have your husbie try cleaning the throttle body, from what you are saying it sounds as if it could be sticking or dirty. It is easy to do.
