You can do it two different ways, but both are recommended with engine/tranny together. You can either drop the subframe assy with everything attached, or pull the engine/tranny out from up top, which is what I did. The wiring harness disconnects at the ecu and in the front of the engine compartment, leave it attached to the engine, unbolt your mounts, remove your cv axles, drain and remove your radiator, disconnect and tie back your ac compressor and pwr steering pump, disconnect your exhaust, and disconnect/label your vacuum lines (and a few other various items). All in all, it gets to be a few hour job, I've pulled, replaced the rear main seal, and put an engine back in within a day (8 hours), and that was being lazy. Your best bet would be to start by downloading the gen 3 service manual, it's very detailed when it comes to removing/reinstalling an engine.

thanks, yes i have seen the drop it all down method, its gonna be a backyard job so no hoist etc, so i didnt want to go that route,
i was told the engine and trans had to be loosened and removed half separated, didnt sound right but thanks for the info, sounds a bit more like it.

I've *heard* that the engine and transmission can be removed separately, I've just never found anything where anyone accomplished it and it was any easier than just taking them both out together, then you won't have to worry about trying to line everything up with next to no space to work with.
