I started with clear tails and sprayed them red with testors candy apple red paint when I outgrew my rice stage. Dont worry about the light not shining through enough, mine were always a little pink because it shined through too much, but that was starting with clear, so considering that they looked good. But if youre starting with amber, you will be fine.
The paint is transparent, so you could spray 100 coats with it and it still wouldnt get past a certain opacity. hope this helps!
