1996 Camry engine quit

Recently driving down Interstate at 65mph. Camry suddenly sputtered twice (like a gas flow problem) and then totally shut down. Coasted onto off-ramp and got towed home. Car would not restart. It would turn over, but not start. And I have gas!!!

Since then I checked my fuel pump (it works), fuel filter was replaced less than a year ago (checked it anyway and fuel is pumped through strongly), replaced my distributer rotor and cap and replaced my spark plug and coil wires.

Still turns over, but will not start! any ideas?

Is the timing belt broke? Check to see if the rotor is turning.

You need to start with the basics. Some one above mentioned to check for a broken timing belt by removing the distributor cap and cranking the engine. If the rotor is turning, the timing belt is OK. If it is not turning, the timing belt has snapped. Assuming the rotor is turning and the timing belt is OK, next thing would be to check for spark at the plugs. Pull one of the spark plug wires and one of the plugs (or use an old plug in the plug wire). Lay the plug on any metal part in the engine block to ground it and crank the engine. Look for spark. You should see a nice blue spark. Let us know what happens after these 2 tests and someone will give you further instructions.
