its not bad to rev past 4500, that is below redline and it should only be dangerous if your running in redline often and running in it for longer than very short amounts of time. I mean you will use more gas and possibly make things wear a bit faster if you do it all the time, but not necessarily.

My auto V6 redlines at almost 6200RPM's, and i've hit it several times with no issues. I also saw a video of someone hitting 7K with their '01 Camry V6, and no issues happened with them.

I'm no expert, but i'd say as long as you dont stay near, at, or past redline, you will be perfectly safe.

^ haha. Mancia YO!

The best power out of the Camry is AFTER 4k RPM's.

I hit redline all the time, 6250 RPM's. I DID hit 6600 ONCE by accident after a Civic pissed me off downdown. Never got by me though.

lol how are you guys even going past the 6200 redline? do your cars not have rev limiters? my car will bounce off the redline but never past it!

most engines should never go past 6K because of how they're built and the types of pressures etc that are associated with running a typical engine at such high rpms.

the computer on the automatic shifts to a higher gear when the rpms reach about 5800, which is already past peak hp and torque. I actually feel that the v6 offers not much more power past 5000.

So is it bad to shift at 4500, not if you properly maintain the vehicle. Also not bad if you do it after the vehicle has fully warmed up.

They put a redline there for a reason, if it hurt your car to go past 4500rpm's the redline would be 4500rpms. Taking it to redline does break down oil faster, create more heat and could cause damage, but only if you dont take care of your car.

Yea no kidding how are you guys getting up to 6200? Most of the time mine shifts out a 5800-6000 and no higher.

You would have to see a dyno to see if the power tachs out before 5000 tho to make that valid, but it does seem like a little after 5k it doesnt do a whole lot.

I could have sowrn that the reline on the 1MZ's was 5800 tho, so I dont know how you guys are pushing over that...

Also... redlining will only ruin an engine that is not maintained properly.

I've driven mine all the way to 6500 rpms without any problems, other than the fuel cut-off to prevent me from reving higher

Good picture Terra, good to see someone who is not all soft about revving an engine.

People forget that these engines are designed to rev high. Stop worrying about breaking it.

One thing that interests me though - the USA always has sludge problems, where as you dont hear of it in Oz....
