4th Generation Recommendations on new Brake Pads/Rotors

for my 2000 camry le v6
166k miles
currently have some green stuff ebc pads and slotted brembo rotors.

going to replace with the ebc pads/brembo rotors (non slotted)

reason i originally got slotted rotors is because my commute required driving over a curvy mountain road.

now i no longer drive over a curvy mountain road... so i don't want slotted rotors...

anyone have any recommendations?

Plain Brembo rotors + Axxis brake pads. Axxis is pretty reputable in a Camry, just my 2 cents. Anything OEM are a ripoff in price (no offense ^).

What curvy road are you talkin about? I'm in the area, and i'm wondering where you had to use slotted rotors on.

1. A little while and then something will eventually wear out or break.

2. Do you?

Who sells axxis brake pads? i'm trying to find a place i can BUY both the pads and the rotors.

i need them for my wife's jetta too. so i wanna buy EVERYTHING in one place to save on shipping.

i'm actually going to switch out my OEM brake pads on my bmw for axxis ones as well. (just haven't gotten aroudn to it yet)

they are supposed to throw up LESS dust than the OEM BMW pads.

and i used to work in watsonville and live in san jose near valley fair mall.

so going over 17 was a BITCH everyday and really hard on my brakes/car

so i replaced my stock oem rotors with slotted brembos made a huge difference.

and they never warped!

but i can't stand the noise that they give off

as far the car and stuff breaking.

So far the camry has been awesome. I've had it since it was new with 150 miles on it bought it in oct 2000.

replaced the o2 sensors at 90k miles (i'll probably have to do that soon)

and just last week i replaced the original timing belt.....as well as the water pump/coolant/brake fluid/steering wheel belt/accessory belt/seals/gaskets/tstat

i love this car and i'm going to keep driving it until i can

she runs today as good as she ran when she had 165 miles no it!

here's a dirty pic of the camry

this was taken last yr in the middle of winter (all that rain we got!)

and here's a pic of my new toy

2003 bmw 540i - m-sport 290 hp/324 tq. rwd! completely stock

how is the brake dust accumulation on the axxis pads i know they are supposed to be alot better than the OEM brake pads on bmws. and i'd like to assume they are built to similar specs for all applications

also do you think i should replace my rear rotors.

i'm still running on the original ones. no machinnig nothing.

i only replaced the ORIGINAL pads last yr. when they were worn out. that was at like 130k miles.

if i'm going to replace all 4 then i'm giong 4 new rotors and pads.

i mean i can't even tell if there is any shaking/vibration from the rear rotors.

OEM ceramics with brembo blanks.

or akebono ceramics. i believe akebono now makes two types of ceramics. But akebono is basically oem toyota ceramics. Thats basically the only combo i've experienced that leaves me with great braking a bility with virtually no fade, long life, and virtually no dust. OH and of the few different brake pads i've wasted moeny on, these have been the only ones (other than oem) that i havent experienced brake noise with!

I currently run Akebono PROACT Ceramics with Brembo Cross Drilled rotors all around. I've upgraded my brake fluid to synthetic and now have Stainless Steel braided brake lines. It doesnt take too much force to set off ABS. =)

yea i'm not looking at upgrading my brake lines or switching to synthetic brake fluid

I did see the Akebono Pro ACT ceramics on tirerack.com.

how many miles have these pads lasted for you, on average?

my current setup was installed at 99k miles

and they are just now wearing down. so 67k miles isn't bad in my book. and i'm not sure HOW Much that had to do with the fact that i have slotted rotors that allow for better cooling/less gas/friction build up.

my commute now is frm gilroy north to sunnyvale. so i'm not as hard on my brakes as i was when i would drive from san jose -- watsonville over 17 thru the santa cruz mtns.

this setup has lasted me for the past...10-15K. Showing no signs of replacement needed and i do 'race' my car. not stupid street racing, rather stupid mountain/hill driving on roads more intense than that commute of yours through 17. Good road tho!

The oem setup on my car actually lasted my parents 8 years 75,000 miles. The only reason brake service had to be performed was because the pads were hard and they wore the rotors down to the mini thickness. We still had 25% front and 50% rear pads at the time of change. What an awesome factory setup.

the noise you experienced is because the camry and many other cars are very picky and prefer oem type stuff. mostly a pad issue.

well i think the noise was the pad rubbing against the slotted surface of the rotor.

which makes sense.

but as i said i'm planning on switching back to the NON slotted rotors. and hope they won't warp as easily as my OEM rotors did

oh well even with oem rotors non oem ceramic pads made noise.
slotted doesnt = noise.

its wierd how many people's rotors warp, when my family has never had rotor warp issues. We wash our cars 4 times a month, drive through norcal weather, take long trips etc, but never have rotor warp.

i suspect my oem rotors warped mostly cuz i was using some shitty pads when i replaced the OEM pads....

thats why this time i'm going to replace with the good stuff...

thanks for all your help!
