4th Generation Where is the odometer reading stored?

As the title asks, where is a Gen 4's odometer info stored? In memory in the odometer itself in the gauge cluster, or somewhere in the ECU?

Essentially, what I want to know is: If I replace the gauge cluster in my car, will the new odometer show what kms are truly on the car, or will it show what kms have been recorded on that cluster?

Thanks

It is stored several places, so make sure you have your new cluster programmed with your current mileage, or get an official sticker (goes inside you door jamb) that states what your mileage was when you changed clusters. If you don't and you sell the car with the false mileage, you could go to jail (in the United States anyways). I changed my cluster in my truck and had the place I purchased it form "program" my current mileage into the new cluster before they shipped it. Now, the mileage that my cluster reads is the same as what is stored in your ECU, which is a good thing. . . .
