hi guys... i just blew my second auto transmission...and i fed up with auto and want a 5spd. i have a 92 camry i4 2.2l auto and i want to swap it to manual..i looked on the sight for information and i found the guy who did it wor a 6 cylder but if anyone can tell me whats envlove for a 4 cycl it would be very helpful...
things that i kno of....
5spd tranny
new clutch and flywheel
manual linkage
clutch pedal assembly
manual shifter
and master cylinder for the clutch...
what else is envoled and m i getting my self into way too much...
I don't know much about it but i think the list is pretty much right. You more than like ly have to use the MT original mount. I also thinking about doing this but the problem is that I have a V6 and a manual tranny is hard to find for the 1MZ, unless a 4cly will work fine. I also tried to serch for info but i coun't find anything since the sites search function is pretty crappy at finding any good info. What did you type in the search button?

from the info zoni gave me expect to pay close to or more than $1000 and that's on the parts alone, so that's not including labor but if you can it do it yourself better but if i were you sell the car and buy one that came with the manual and in the end it will be cheaper that route then swaping to a 5-speed even if you do the swap yourself "Seriously"
I found a site. http://www.tt-cc.com/ratko/swap/ Man it some what alot of work. Do you really have to drop the subframe, it doen't look that neccecary to me. You should be able to jut support the engine and take the transmission out like if it wan en engine. I i know it obious that you can just drop the tranny on a cam but man droping the subframe is a little to much it? I looked at the car part website and in my area the list a manual tranny from a 93 V6 and with who knows how many mile for $500+ and the place was over 150 miles away. There was also another one for abot $200 butit had way too many miles. Yea you guys are right about just buying another cam with manual. Are you still thinking about it CamryBoy?
i was gonna do a 5 speed swap, but it would cost me close to $1300 to do it! id rather sell the car....tired of the troubble.

If this was a really expensive or newer car, I wouldnt mind spending a few thousand to swap it with a stick, but on a car such as the gen3, it would cost anywhere from 1000-$2000 (probably more), and with that money you could buy a say, gen4 camry instead.
I think its kinda funny how people are willing to spend thousands to swap an auto for a stick, but when you buy a car new, you actually save money by getting the stick :P
My swap is costing me $1300- $750 for all parts (including spec stage 3 clutch, fidanza flywheel, TRD short shifter, etc.) and about $500 for the labor. This is a steal in my opinion- usually only the parts would cost that much and speed source is very very reasonable on labor charges.
I also think its weird from this point of view- people will spend $1300 on wheels and tires for their car, but not on a trans swap. Granted wheels and tires can be reused on other applications, but still... it isnt THAT much money considering what you get when compared to other mods.
Im confused $1300-$750 for all parts huh? Well your right about that for that amount of money it is the best mod you can do because it lightens the car and gives back more power down the wheels and not mention it's 5 gears instead of 4 so faster acceleration on just that plus it increases the fun factor over an automatic 100x lol. Dysk8forlife can't wait to hear your results on the swap!!

$1300 seems very reasonable for that actually, I remember hearing people saying almost 2 grand just for parts, then when you add in the labor and stuff your looking at 2-3 grand.
im now looking into finding all the parts....if i can get my hands on a i4 5spd at a junkyard thats still intact im gonna do it.... i dont have to pay for labor because ill be doing it myself.. i already put one new tranny it so i pretty much got it down..and yes the subframe has to come off...but its not that big of a deal i think its only like 6 bolts..
