USA How Fuel flter change ?

I already read the manuals but I can not understand how can I change the fuel filter at all.

My car is camry 97 made in japan and california emission

1. Where is the location of the fuel filter(passenger side or engine side) ?

2. How can I depressurize the fuel pump?

Thanks a lot

Chris

1. An easy way to find the fuel filter is to buy a new one and find one that looks like it in the engine compartment. That is what I had to do on my Acura Legend. Couldn't figure out which line was fuel or whatever. Haven't had to change the one on our 97 V6 yet.

2. The easy way to depressurize the line is to wrap a rag around the fuel line fitting where it goes in to the filter. Using the correct wrench, break the seal on the fuel line and the pressure will dissipate. Do this with a COLD ENGINE please.

not sure on gen 4 but on gen 3 its should be next to the driver shock tower.. next to brake booster
i used 2 wrench and loosen the nut (at the top) with top wrench and just hold the bottom wrench in place

the EASY WAY to depressurize the fuel system is to un-screw the gas cap

At least for my 98 camry LE, the location is same as yours...

I did that several years ago.

Unscrew the gas cap or not, I can't remember clearly, probably need to unscrew it.

Pull out the cushion of the back seat, you will find a big cover which is sealed by glue, pry it by using screwdriver, then you can see a relay, disconnect it. After this, try to start your car several times. The pressure should be gone. Disconnect the battery.

You need to remove the air filter house and the air intake so that you have enough space to disconnect the fuel filter. The remaining thing is just 2 or 3 wrench work. After you disconnect inlet and outlet lines, there will be some fuel coming out. Then remove the two bolts of the fuel filter bracket.

Much easier to release the fuel pressure on a cold car...

Stan
