94 camry V6. it was extremely faint when i picked the car up 6K miles ago. Only when i floored it could i hear the buzz with the windows down. well, this last weekend i was beating on it a bit in the snow and something let loose. I Thought maybe the y-pipe. I jacked it up today and I cant find any hint of the leak. it is coming from the rear of the motor, the only thing i can think of is the exhaust manifold gasket.
the leak sounds like it is above the y pipe and I cant get a good view of the rear manifold to tell if thats where its coming from. the exhaust will come into the cabin at stoplights if i have it set to take in fresh air. is this common for the manifold gasket to go out? I havent changed the valve cover gasket yet, so maybe the oil saturated it enough to break it up? where else could it be coming from? its mostly loud at idle. once at cruise you dont even hear it which kinda makes me think header gasket. once the air is flowing enough it probably flows right past any leak <shrug>

im developing a leak on my exhaust manifold near the back of the engine(left bank), i think thats a common place for the camry V6, cuz my old camry did the same thing. all i did was replace the manifold gasket and it was all good.

thanks! how many miles were on the engine? I turned 211,000 just as it popped. not a big deal, more of a hassel than anthing.

well the old one was about 105K and this is ons 150K. u can prolly get it just as cheap at an auto parts store, like autozone. i think they have them at carparts.com though.
i got one at the dealer, metal, fairly cheap, also pick up 8 or 10 nuts for it too, for safety. actually i could sell you my gasket, 8 nuts, and mani-to-y pipe gasket if you want...i was gonna do my front one, but i dont think it seriously needs it, and now that im selling the car theres no use of me keeping parts im not gonna use...
