Question 2.2 engine with rod bearing failure

OK i got a lady friend in Fla. that has a 99 Camry with a 2.2 L engine that has like 266k on it she bought it used with 250k on it well 2 mechanics have told her it done. She says a used engine will cost her $2200 bucks. One is that a fare price to pay for a used 4 banger? Two can she put an older engine in it than a 99, in other words was that engine produced before 99?

TIA

u could swap a motor in thats older, but if its older then 97 ull need to swap the wiring harness and a few other components.

this is just an example, but its about 2200 for a totally rebuilt engine so its definatly a better deal than a serviced used one.

if its before 97 you will have to cancel out the distributor simply by removing it and installing a cam plug on the head. 97+ 5sfe should be the same up to 99. With that kind of milage why not buy another used car with less miles she can probably pick up 99 with less miles for cheaper than she paid for that one probably.
