3rd Generation help/ 92 camry is making wierd noise

I own a 92 camry 4cyl. w/ 150,000 miles on it. Just recently it started making a noise while idleing. It idles at around 800 then the fans turn on and it jumps to about 1,000 when it drops back down to 800 it makes a noise that sounds like urrrnnk and it seems to get worse the longer car idleing. It kind of sounds like something is slowing down after everything else. Any one have any ideas?

i have a 95 camry that makes noise while idling [started at about 130k miles], but the source is the a/c compressor...

check to see if it makes the noise with the a/c on AND off to eliminate this as a source

sounds like it is coming from the left back and bottom side of the engine. I will try shutting off the a/c and see if it stops. Is it possible that the alternater belt may be too tight or too loose? Because I just changed it about a month ago.

Well I just went out and tried turning off the a/c and it seemed to solve the problem. Is it a hard job to change the a/c compressor?

I think this is going to be expensive. Because I am assuming the only fix is to replace it and if I don't i won't have any a/c right? How do you recharge and refresh your a/c?

Well You Have To Have A Special Machine To Do It So I Just Go To A Local Shop (who Is A/c Ceritified) To Get Recharged And Refreshed

Its Still Going To Make The Noise YOU ONLY HAVE TO REFRESH THE SYSTEM IF YOU ARE GOING TO REPLACE THE A/C COMPONENT

recharging your a/c wont fix the problem! recharging your a/c only CHARGES the freon in the a/c system. AFTER replacing anything on the a/c system then youre supposed to recharge

...ametures, lol.

first figure out if its the belt, or something simple in that area. if you find play in the compressor shaft (or the pully moves in and out) then its prolly shot. do you actually get cool air when the A/C is on? if not then decide to replace it.

you first need the system relieved/vacuumed of the charge thats in it, so you can safely remove your compressor. then replacement, and lastly recharge with the correct volume, and dont forget to add some oil (A/C oil, spesficly).

working at a dealership has its good pionts.

good luck with the work!

thanks for the advise, I do get cold a/c but I have noticed that every now and then i have to push the a/c button a couple of times before it will turn on. ( this happens very rarely ..like once every 2-3 months ) I am going to check the belts and let you know what I can find out. I am really dreading having to replace it all since I will have to convert system from r12 to r134 I think. I am sure it is a job that is over my head. So anything I can do to keep from replacing the compressor would be good.
