removal of seatbel chime on 1994?

hey guys,

had a question, is it possible to remove the seatbelt chime from a 1994 Camry?

This is the same chime that rings when your seatbelt isn't buckled when starting the car, as well as opening the door with the key still in the ignition.

I don't have an issue with forgetting to buckle my seatbelt, or with locking my keys in the car. I would love to get ride of the chime, it drives me nuts!

Any ideas?

I would imagine that you locate the wire under the seat that goes to the female part of the seatbelt. Disconnect connection, if that doesn't work, jump connector. IIRC, you disconnect one and jump the other, can't remember if pass side or driver side.

first you must ask yourself, is it really worth taking your entire dash apart?

I do know how you feel. I'll often work on my car and have the radio playing with the door open, and all you hear is DING DING DING.....arg

You put it on the second level when the door is open and it stops dinging after about ten times

So the problem has been solved. I removed the lower dash (below the steering wheel) and was able to track down the evil "chime".

It’s a little speaker on a PC board, I didn't want to remove it for fear of damaging the PC board. So I took a small screw driver and ripped out the voice coil of the speaker.

Plugged everything back in, and started the car....pristine silence!

total time to complete the project was about 35 minutes. I could probably do it again in about 15 minutes (since I know what I am looking for).

I didn't have my camera with me to document the process.

If there is interest I am willing to take it apart again and take pictures and do a write up.

Let me know.
