Why would you put a brake on the timing belt?

Ah...that makes more sense

Most Toyota engines that use timing belts are non-interference so if the belt breaks, the engine just stops. There have been some posts on here about the belt breaking and doing some damage when the engine is turning at high RPMs though, ie 5000 or more.

I had mine break...

Mine broke on the way home from getting my car washed one time. Engine just suddenly died (scared the crap out of me). Wasn't that big of a deal though, just took it in and had the belt replaced. Fortunately the camry has a non-interference engine.
