3rd Generation my odometer got broke...

right when i hit 200,000, it got stuck! the last 2 digits were ok, but the rest were stuck between 199,9xx and 200,0xx. then, when i was supposed to hit 200,100, everything stopped moving. AND THEN soon after, all 6 numbers were scrolling! it finally died at around 755,xxx. nothing moves now.

can this be fixed? or do i need a new gauge cluster. and if i do get a new one, are there legality issues with that at all, since the odometer reading is different?

Though I have no good input to this, this is the first time I've ever heard anything like this happen. And aren't there laws preventing the changing of odometers? That is one big mess there.

3rd Generation

In Georgia, if your car is more than 10 years old, it is exempt from the Truth in Mileage Act. If the car is younger, you still cannot be punished for a broken odemeter. It would only be illegal, if you claimed that it shows the correct mileage. If it is broken, you tell it to the buyer and you check a little box on the title.

It is a different questions that buyers may look at the car suspiciously.

Go to Ebay.com, Junkyard, etc, and get a used one with the same miles. Make sure it is from the same car (I4/V6), as the RPM is different. Swap it. Same mileage, so no legality issues.
