I was getting tired of the ordinary green backlight from the instrument cluster and shifter, so I decided to change them. For the dash, I just took off the green covers, and decided to paint them blue to give a blue tint to it. I also added cathodes to the shifter panel. Heres a quick DIY guide that I made, tell me what you think.

First, locate the two screws above the spedo cluster:

Remove both the screws using a standard philips screwdriver:

Unscrew the two other screws located near the radio:

Carefully pry out the retention clips on the sides:

Disconnect the cables from the back of the dash:

Remove the 4 screws holding the instrument cluster together:

Disconnect the cables from the back of the instrument cluster:

To remove the green "condoms", remove the 4 large bulbs by turning them (and dont forget the two smaller bulbs, which have a blue housing and can be removed by a philips:

Remove the green sleeves:

Also remove the top-most bulb from the shifter display:

Re-install the shifter display, along with the bulbs:

The following pic was taking yesterday with my camera phone, but I had forgotten to replace one of the blue side bulbs, so thats why theres a hint of green on the right. It was also before painting the bulbs blue:

Finished all of mine the other day, clickey for video.

Hard to see on video, but the cig and ignition ring are blue, and so is the Climate Control unit, minus the green indicators for them.

You need to either change the covers, or get LEDs to rid the yellow.

i would take the solder off the LEDs and replace them with OLED white ones if you want to paint them blue ... or blue LEDs [but they are sometimes expensive and hard to find]

nice DIY tho

Hijacking my own thread here, but does anyone know the type of bulb that the instrument panel used? Im thinking about buying some LED's to replace the stock bulbs.
