after installing an aftermarket head unit, my antenna doesnt want to go up at all. its connected b/c it gets good reception but it just wont go up. usually when people instal head units the antenna just stays up all the time. anyone know whats wrong with mine?

Have you connected the power antenna wires? On most head units its the blue wire.
well yea i think so. i used a wire harness from ebay and i just connected the head unit wires to it. i have an amp wired to it and the amp works. i dont see why the antenna wouldnt
Most likely you didnt connect the power antenna cable. From the decks i've isntalled, they arent part of the harness, they need to be connected seperatly.

Hmm? I've got a new HU on the way so I'd be very appreciative if you'd explain the process in more detail.
hmm so is this wire part of the stock harness or is it totally seperate? i know i connected the big antenna plug but i guess ill check the harness again for any wires i might have missed
edit: nvm just read that they arent part of the harness
The antenna wires I am talking about is in the loom that goes to the radio it sends a signal to the antenna to go up or down. Go to this link http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/Toyota-Wiring.pdf if it works to identify the power antenna wires on the vehicle and the head unit.
As I said before, the power antenna wire is seperate from the harness. It should be a blue wire and sometimes it has a sticker on it that relates to the power antenna.
Check to see if the new control head has provisions for controlling a power antenna. The Toyota power antenna has more then one-control wire running to it. Suggest going to the link below and finding you generation of car. Then downloading the wiring diagram.
No offence guys, but I think you've all been confusing...
The antenna control wire IS part of the STOCK plug. (Obviously, because the stock head unit is able to control the antenna.)
If you've bought a wiring harness to connect your aftermarket head unit to the stock plug, it may or may not have the antenna control wire in it. (Mine did.) But if it doesn't, you have to try and feed the wire into the harness to make a connection with the head unit, which is a bitch to do without breaking it. (Had to do that for my amp control wire.)
If you haven't bought a wiring harness and you just cut the stock plug off, then you've missed a connection. Look around in there for an extra wire and check to see if its the antenna control wire.
Heh, I can't be stuffed finding out which color the wire is.
what i cant understand is why there are 11 posts about this so far...
if your amp turns on with your radio, use the wire for the antenna to go up, (blue) wire, and hook it to the amp start up wire.
