4th Generation Camry '98 4-cyl A/C filter question

Hi from Germany,

the country which hates camry (or its drivers). Anyway, I´m one of 328 buyers who bought that car in 1998 and still driving it with fun at 150m/h on german autobahn (when it´s possible of course). I have a question regarding the A/C filter (not CABIN filter or Air filter), it stinks and must be replaced again and due to the very strong euro it´s quity pricey here. My dealer wants approx $70 for this little piece so I thought of importing it by myself from US. Done it before buying denso sparks, so it shouldn´t be difficult this time. This is what I thought. Somehow I can´t find that party anywhere, not on eBay, not on google etc. Does anybody know where I can order it? Here in Germany only official Toyota dealers can supply it. Hope somebody can help me out.

Here is a picture from the German manual.

Thank You for your help.

Might be a dealer only part. Suggest you download the A/C service section from the link below and see if USA cars came with this filter. There are a few US dealers that sell discount Toyota parts, but with shipping not sure if it would pay to do this. The dealers have been discussed on TN, might do a search.

Um, WOW! I do not think the US cars have that. I'll see if I can check at my local Toyota dealer sometime Friday, as I need to go pick up some parts I have ordered, and get a quote on another.

I'd think possible Australian Camry's MAY have had it, as they had some features that the US Camry's did not.

Thanks guys, you are a great help.

I've downloaded the manual for the 1999 camry and it looks like you didn't have an automatic climate control installed? Very strange. All Camrys sold in Germany were equipped with it, they've never sold it with manual A/C (or even without it). It looks like even US V6 Camrys didn't have it? Just saw some pictures in this forum.

If one is interested:

http://www.camrymanuals.com/manuals/...ner_Manual.pdf

Page 140. No word about it. I could swear you would drive the same car as myself. Since it's a Toyota the same automatic A/C must be installed in other cars then, maybe Lexus? ES 300? Is anyone familiar with that car? I think I will have a look at lexusownersclub.com. What an awkward Toyota policy, I mean there are enough hot places in the USA.

That's true with Australia, the did have the same A/C, I have a brochure here and it shows same interior as mine. There was even a Camry IV Wagon available, I've never seen it here or elsewhere. Might post some pictures later when interested.

Thanks again.

I am fairly certain that Camrys in the US before 2002 model year did not have any air filter. On the 2002 and newer models, the air filter is behind the glove box, not down by the pedals on the driver side.

All US 1997-2001 Camrys have A/C, but climate control is manual adjust on models except the XLE (top spec) models.

You might want to look at parts for Lexus ES300 (1997-2001) because that is like a luxury Camry sold under a different name with different styling.

Guess I must visit some Lexus forums, according to the pictures here the ES 300 had the same A/C as my car.

http://photos2.ebizautos.com/984/1543681_31.jpg

Yes, ES 300 was never sold here, must be a great car. Lexus is currently getting better in Germany, but it's still a long way to go. Mercedes and BMW is way too strong. Toyota introduced a major hit with the new Auris and Volkswagen might get in trouble, especially since they don't have any hybrid cars. But that's another story. Thanks guys.

^ Funky in what way?

Cam22, I checked at my local dealer today, and OUR Camry's did not even get a Cabin Filter till 2002. Could not find anything on an A/C Filter here. Sorry I could not be of more help.
