9005 vs 9006

I've heard people talking about 9005 conversions, but I wasnt able to find any specific thread about it. I know the high beams are 9005, but are they "brighter" because of the fact that they are 9005's, or because they have a higher wattage?

And lastly, I was thinking about getting this Silverstar Ultra package, what do you guys think of it? And I want to make sure that they are the right types, lol.

Things you often hear around TN, you can readily find in the stickies at the top of the sections:

http://toyotanation.com/forum/t6831.html

go down to "more light" by bluemeanie.

I do believe that the 9006 are 55 watts while the 9005s are 65 watts. They suposedly last longer-- the "ultras" ... I had the regular silverstar 9005 going on a year now...unitil unrelated occurances made them die.

Last question, if I converted my low beam to 9005, will they have pretty much the same output as the 9005 high's, or slightly lower since the housing is different?

I dont want to be blinding people who are driving by, lol.

I've been wondering the exact same thing.

If you convert the 9005 bulbs and use them as low beams are they as bright as the high beams when they're turned on?

You would be using the exact same bulbs for both low and high (9005 65W), but the only difference being that the low beam housing is much wider, while the high beam is smaller.

I know i've gotten flashed alot when I left my high beams on by accident.

there is a hat/shield on the low beam side (at least with the depos) so even with 9005s in the lows it wont be as bright as the high beam side. It also depends on how your lights are angled.

My Thread http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t171717.html , im very happy with them, but King said he melted his connectors, i havent yet. My only compliant is that the connectors come loose over hard bumps and such.

I'll probably do that since it seems like a simple mod. So I would just buy two sets of 9005 bulbs, correct?

I meant one set for the retrofited low beams, and one set for the highs.

Correct. I tested it this evening with my stock highs and it worked pretty well. Now I need to order some more of my aftermarket lights and do it...
