hi and welcome to the forums. the ECT button increases the rpm level at which the transmission shifts to the next gear, so it basically holds the gears for longer. try using the forum search function as this has been mentioned a few times already.

thats button just deactivates overdrive
Overdrive helps you maintain high speeds at low RPMs. when you deactivate it (ect button) the engine revs up a couple thousand rpms while your speed increases a little. Its fun lets you have a manual feel in a auto tranny.

thats wrong
--there is a separate button to turn overdrive off ... its on your shifter's left side, its a circle
--the ECT button is a rectangle on the base next to the shifter

the O/D button has a seperate light and disables your overdrive (4th) gear, while the ECT button [aka. Power Acceleration] changes it so that your car shifts at higher RPMs ... simulating a manual trans. scenario

that is not correct. the ECT button does not deactivate overdrive. the o/d button does that. the ECT "power" mode increases the rpm at which the transmission shifts into the next gear.

the O/D button is a separate button which allows you to engage or disengage overdrive.

2 separate things.

EDIT: Venom_5 you beat me to it :P

The ECT doesnt just disable overdrive. As others have said, ECT basically tell the ECU not to switch gears for a bit longer, which provides a bit better acceleration.

lol ... i dont know why they would give a 4-door family sedan a "power acceleration" mode

my friends and i laugh @ it all the time ... however i do use it on the highway once in a while if i wanna go fast and pretend that im cool

Its not really a "power accelerator", it just tells te tranny not to shift until a bit longer. But you can get the same effect by just accelerating faster.

And it has absolutely no difference when you floor it.

The ECT doesn't really make a difference in my opinion. The car still shifts at 5500 on or off when you floor it
