seatbelt retractors on Gen4

Hello everyone

Mine is 97 Camry I4. I'm having a weak retractor coil spring issue with my drivers seatbelt. It just doesn't want to pull back and always jam my door. I did a search on google and here is the fix, http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/minutemods/seatbelt/

But how to reach that part on my car? I checked Haynes manual and it did not have it. I have that problem on both side of the car.

Please advice, or any one has the same issue?

Thanks

Alex

You have to take out the panels either side of the panel you want to take out first, because they interlock with each other...

There should be three of those metal clips per panel. You need a flathead screwdriver to try and pry the trim panel out of those metal clips.

Once you get those panels out, you can take off the panel which is covering the seatbelt retractor. That just a matter of pulling it off. No tools required.

I gonna try it this weekend.... Did you say I have to take all the side panel? I think I just need to take off the that panel to reach the retractors....

You just have to take out the panels at the bottom of the front and rear doorway. You'll see why when you take them off. Install the panels back in reverse order when you're finished.

Don't bother with the panels towards the roof. They can stay where they are.

I did try it today but I really can't take the bolt off... The bolt to hold the retractor to the body is TIGHT to the hell.... and it's not standard one... It looks like 16mm or 17mm one...

Anyone took it off before? Please help!!!!

Will, tried again this morning and tight the spring. It's not too diff, but it still doesn't fix the problem. I think I need clean the belt or find some tape (someone on google talk about that) from the dealer... Hope they have it for me.
