3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
As some of you know, im selling my car on Auto Trader and on this board. If it does sell, im seriously looking into buying a 1999 Camry LE V6 5-spd. I looked around on Auto Trader and I didnt find many deals better then this, but if anyone finds a Gen5 for under $8000, let me know :P
Anyways, I just want your opinion on this car, and if you think its worth $5,995.
The car has around 127K miles, inside looks great, engine idles great (havent gone for a test drive yet). It could be cleaned up a bit and it will look nicer as well.
I see you've done alot of maintenance on your car already (t-belt, etc) -so why sell it, it's set for another 90k with little to go wrong...and a few years down the road you could get a gen 6.
I <3 NH.
Live free or......die
The 1999 has a new alternator, brakes, tires, etc. I asked the mechanic to check and see if the timing belt has been replaced yet, if it has then its pretty much a deffinite sale, but if not, im not sure.
make sure you find out the past of that camry.. you never know what could have happened to it.. and especially when dealers will do anything to sell their cars >_>

The dealer told me that the car was a trade in for a used truck (pretty new, but used), and they inspect it to make sure everthing passes, and they said that all they had to do was a few minor fix it's.
I bought a carfax report on the car and it only had one owner I believe, and there were no reports of any type of accident or major repair.
And by the way, before you go saying that the dealer just wants to make money, this isnt one of those large dealers where they dont care about you. It's a family owned place and were friendly with the owners. Actually the wife (part owner), originally talked me out of getting that Camry then because I had just replaced the timing belt, but I did get some good use out of the car...
And about the price, a few months ago I did tell them that I'm intereted in the 99 Camry, and in addition to my car as a trade in, I have $1500 or so to put towards that car. They also explained that $5995 was pretty much breaking even and they really cant sell it for under that. Granted now its been sitting there for a month or so, so I may be able to talk them down a couple hundred if I pay by cash or check.
Looks like a good car, but for 6K, its sounds kinda risky when is running at 125K. Yes there is a alot of features: sun roof, new tires, brake, etc. but for a 1999 6K its kinda a high price, my opinion, i'll try to get it down lower, or look at other camrys first, you might find a better dead else where.
