How does 2-button keyless remote work?

Hi,

Two two-button keyless remotes came in the glove box of my '97 Camry. I put new batteries in them, but I can't get the LED to light or the remotes to work. I found the link on how to assign a new transmitter, but they both seem dead. I am using new 2025 3V batteries with the + side down, but nothing seems to happen. Is the LED supposed to be on all the time? Or just when you push the button?

Thanks,

Bill B

even if the remote isnt on the correct frequency for the car, the red LED should light when you press the buttons. sounds like there is something weird with the batteries.

here is the link i found for the alarm. skewe was kind enough to scan it in. the "quick reference" link will tell you how to turn on and off the automatic feature.

I got both remotes to light the LED when the button was pressed. Battery was inserted with the + side down against the plastic case half. One remote had some dirt on the - contact spring. After cleaning it up, it worked fine. I downloaded Skewe's information on the system from the FAQ link, followed it to assign both remotes, and now they both work fine. Wreched excess! Two functional remotes. Thanks to all for the help.
