P0770 Torque Converter Solenoid??

So I got this code, took it to a shop expecting them to just change the solenoid, but they said it was actually a problem w/ the torque converter clutch...and he recommended me to a transmission shop...

is this real?

How much would something like this cost to fix? the labor to replace a torque converter..or maybe the labor to replace the entire transmission?

thinking of getting a rebuilt transmission from a shop or having it rebuilt...but dunno how much it would cost and shops are closed now

Not up on costs.

The problem could be the solenoid, valve body or clutch. The code only indicates the clutch is not locking up properly not that a specific parts is bad. The service manual has procedures to diagnose each area. The shop should have run down the possible items and ended up at the clutch. To replace the clutch requires pulling the trans (majority of labor costs here) and torque converter (not to hard) then replacing the clutch (labor and parts costs).

Your can find a rebuilt or used trans but the remove/install costs will still be there. Get quotes on replacing the clutch, removing and installing a used/rebuilt trans plus cost of either trans. Usually buying a good used trans is much cheaper then rebuilding.

Got that code a few weeks ago, needed transmission rebuilt. The code was caused by all the metal in the tranny clogging up the passages. How many miles on your car? Oh I got the tranny rebuilt, the solenoids were all fine and were re-used.

yo another way to try and solve this problem would be to follow the line that leaves your negative post off your battery to this spot on top of the transmission, remove the blot and sand down the area where it connects too. find some way to erase the code and then reinstall the bolt. some times the code gets thrown when the sensor isn't getting a good ground therefore a bad signal to the ecu check it out!!!!!
