3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I been trying to get my Dome Light on the Camry to work BUT without any luck.
I had check all the fuse and they seem ok, but when i try to test on the unit itself with a 12V Test Light enough come up.
Is that mean the wire is broken somewhere??? if so is there a way to trace it????
I need to fix it ASAP so if anyone in here would be able to help that would be great!!!!
So ur dome light doesn't turn on but there is current to the socket?
Does it turn on when you put the switch on to the "on" position?
My car's dome light doesn't come on when I open the rear doors. The sensors for the rear doors are not working properly and they would only work if I touch them. Even then the light only comes on for a sec before slowly fading out again.

I pry out the plaster celing cover from the dome light....with 12V Test Light i clip it to a good "Ground" then test it BUT there is no light to indicate that there is Current going throught.
I have already check the FUSE everything seem to work fine in the car electrical except the dome light.
Ok, the Camry is a bit weird here. The dome light only has 2 wires to it, and the car itself is the 3rd "wire". Pull the dome light down (4 screws, 2 of which ground it to the car as the 3rd wire) and test it from the connection itself. Could possibly be that the hpusing itself somehow broke.
The dome light wire goes down the A-pillar behind the dash to a connector. Then that connector/wire goes to the FRONT of the fuse block to a connector.

When you say "The dome light wire goes down the A-pillar behind the dash to a connector" i once upgraded my standard cd/player would i screw it up from there ???
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, your Camry is the reverse, so things WILL be a touch different.
The dome wire goes along the roof down A pillar (should be the REVERSE side for you, but not 100% sure). It then has a connection behind the dash (would need to take entire dash off to get to it.) That connector THEN runs to the main junction box/fuse block, as seen in picture #2. The actual connector in my photo is behind the black piece, so you can't see it. But it's there. Sorry that I do not have a better picture for you mate.

I've got a similar problem with the interior dome light & I have no wiring diagram.
My wife said "the inside lights not working"
The bulb *was* broken but I shorted the circuit when pulling the busted globe out now the central locking wont work AND the interior light wont work although the main 25A fuse is fine!!!! any ideas?

^ Did you chec BOTH the fuse int he engine AND behind the coin tray (fuse block as seen in my picture above)? Again, that is the LHD Camry, so I THINK yours is reversed.
*EDIT
Just say you listed Gen 4. Not sure where it is, but you should have 2 fuses also. Check both the engine compartment ones AND the interior ones. your owners manual *should* have a diagram.

I have a sunroof with map light, and I shorted that out. The screwdriver touched the + and -. Items that did not work: Radio, Door Chime, Interior Lights, cig lighter. I almost had a heart attack whebn I checked the interior fuse and it was fine. Ended up being the MAIN fuse in the engine bay that blew. Changed it, and all went well.
So by your central locking NOT working, I;d guess the main fuse in the engine bay is what blew.

Ok, just looked in the North American owners Manual. the fuse int he engine bay DOES go to BOTH the Interior lights AND central door locking system.
*EDIT
It IS in your owners manual. Towards the back. My guess is your radio, cig lighter, trunk light, and other stuff does not work as well, as that is all on that fuse too. Hope that solves your problem!

The dome light plastic cover, in some cases, actually pushes some replacement bulbs slightly up and out of the connection areas of the socket. Make sure that's not the problem. Mine didn't work unless I had the cover off...but I like the aesthetics more than an extra light.
