Ok, so I got a great deal on this car. Low milage and a flawless interior. It was grandma driven, only in the summers and probably just on the weekends.
Problem is, when she did drive she hit something probably on every outing.
The frame and cross members and a few other things had to fixed by the seller before I purchased it. Just for it to be saftied. So now I'm getting it painted and getting the body fixed and all the rust removed and filling in the emblems.
Miss matched door handles and mirror.
A few rub's dent's and scratches even alittle rust forming.
More rust dent and scratch.
more rust and a dent that sends a crease all the way down the door panel
Rust forming on the bottom of the door panels.
You might say ouch that's a lot of damage and you'd be right but these pic's don't even show the hood damage, all the dent's and ding's along the entire body and roof line as well as the numerous scratches. That is because I was too lazy to wash the car before I took the pics so it just looks like dirt and not damage.
If you are wondering why I'm posting this, then here's the answer I'm getting all the work done for just sevreal hundred bucks and you might say I'm gloating or what have you but... I am as you might be wondering how good will the quality be for under a thousand. Especially cause I'm having the color changed to black with a red tint in the clear coat. They have to do all thre door sills of course.
I get the car back this sunday and I'll post the new pics when I get a chance. Here's to hoping.
Sounds like you got a deal. I hope you know the rep of the person and/or shop that is painting it, though. My husband does auto body work and paint for a living, and paint usually isnt cheap, especially if there is body work involved too. Thats a friendly note, not to burst your bubble or sound rude, I just would hate to see anyone get ripped, or have their car ruined because they thought they were getting a deal. There are some crooks out there. I have had a couple of shops price painting my car, which has no need for body work, and the prices have ranged from $500.00 just to spray- (if I sand, tape, prime, and do all door jams), all the way to a whopping $5000.00 (to do all door jams and sand, tape , prime, paint, cut ,and buff). My paint is similar to yours, but mine is black with pink metal flake in the clear. You are probably getting a red pearl in your clear, right? Its similar, but metal flakes are alot bigger,a nd they are alot more noticeable. I hope that your car turns out great, and I cant wait to see those pics!!!!
SNIPER: Im not sure what the price ranges are where you live, but usually you can get that mercedes look with a viper black paint. Maybe call your local paint supplier (like NAPA) and price a gallon with all the clear and hardener and reducer that youll need to do a full paint job. Then ask around at some shops how much they'd charge if you supply materials, and then a price if they supply them. You can get an Idea if someone is ripping you off if you try it.

My falt black was with rattle cans!!!! It was a quick fix, cause we had no time to paint it, and it was candy apple green all but the front fender, which we had to replace, so I thought better flat than mismatched!! Now, they do sell that black spray apint at walmart for 96 cents a can!! I used the 4.00 a can kind. Although, Im not sure why!?!

I got a complete paint job for $800 on my old camry when I had my hood replaced. I wasn't all that satisfied with it, it was obvious they took multiple shortcuts in doing the job. You get what you pay for, no doubt about that.
Ok to answer a few questions... It is a really good price he said 700 for just the original paint and 900 for the new color and all the extras included.
No one will get a price this good without connections, which is what I have. The guy owns a scrap yard and so his materials cost him nothing. He also used to work at an autobody so I know his work is quality, as I've seen it. My only concern is can/will the work be at the quality he's capable of for such a great price.
My buddy got the color on his car changed to a metallic grey for $5000 canadian by some other shop last year and I thought the job was crap. So it's like playmategirl says, sometimes it'll cost you but even then it's really about trust. (can you trust them)?
I guess I'm going to find out tomorrow. So far I can't get ahold of him to schedule a pick up time.

Your "connection" sounds very similar to the one I had when I got my paint job done. Good luck...
