hi guys I am new to this forum, so hear is my question, I own a 1995 camry and the problem is that lets says I am driving it for like a lil while, the car begins to start to overheat. Now I just replace the radiator, and the sensor for the fans were replaced too and it still is over heating if I drive it for a lil while. Now I went back and they told me that the fans can be bad, is this a common problem that can be happen. Please let me know, my camry is frustrating me
A lot depends on whether you are talking about driving it in town and relatively slow speeds or on the highway. It is my understanding that if you are highway speed and not in stop and go traffic then the fans don't really do anything. If you are scooting along at 50 or 60 mph you can't really get any more air through the rad to help cool things down. If that is the case then you have a blockage such as a collapsed tube or a thermostat not fully opening. In town, oth, that is a different question. You need the aux fan to help move air through the rad.
Here is what I would do; when you car is nice and warm, park it with the engine running and the hood up. Now watch the fans and see what happens as the temp starts to rise. you should see the one fan kick on as the temp rises. The other thing I would do is to turn the a/c on and see if the aux fan kicks on. I am not certain about toyota but I believe that as soon as the a/c is on, this fan should start up. That would give you a lot of info about fan operation. Let us know what you find.
I'm having this same problem... Started right after i changed my raditator... But when i turn on my AC both fans turn on... So as I see the temp getting high i turn on the AC... When mine over heats the overflow bottle starts to bowl and u see the vapors.. I've been too lazy to fix it... I think its one of the sensors/thremostats not telling the fan to turn on... If u fix it let me know what u changed

the fans did turn on so I know now its not the fans. I am thinking it could be just the thermostat, how do u replace the thermostat on these cars
finally figured out the problem, I was realizing that fans werent turning and I was what!!! So I played around with the rely fuse for the cooling fan and it came on and off, so I am thinking it can be either the fuse or box that fuse goes in that bad but we will see at least it isnt the headgasket
yeah i had the same problem on my 96 camry and my needle seemed to go up only while im driving but when i was at at stop the needle would come back to normal. So we changed the thermostat.Radaitor cap, and nothing worked.SO then my cousin messed with the fan fuses by just taking them off and cleaning them also he unplugged the fans from their socket and clean them out and put everything back on.Everything was back to normal so you should try that and see if it helps.Good luck and let us know.

same thing happened to me while i was on the road. i macguyvered the relay by just jumping the terminals with some wire i had. granted the fans were always running, but thats better than no fans. anyway, the moral of the story is, if your fans turn on and off when you wiggle the relay around the problem lies in the connectors below the fusebox itself. i picked up a new fuse box from the junkyard with all the fuses and relays for $30 and had it replaced in about an hour.
i could have probably repaired the loose connectors at the bottom of the box...but i got a whole set of spare relays and fuses while i was at it
also why would you buy new fans when you know they worked when you fiddled with the relay?
