the 5 speed in the camry is the e153 i believe, the only differance is with gear ratios. the mr2 came with smaller gear ratios then the camry or solara because of the smaller powerband. im not sure if the tranny in the camry and solara were geared different from each other though.

I remember reading that the Solara was geared on a wider range than the one in the Mr2's and it was suggested that the Solara tranny was to be used for higher output cars. I think Tony the Tiger mentioned it.
And what bigbird said

excellent data

so I should think that an E53 (mine) should be identical (physically) to an E153 transmission (except for gearing)

I have a plan if it does

thanks for all the help

Cool

The bellhousing, etc is the same, the transmission casing is the same.
The gears are slightly different, the final drive is different, and the shift linkage is on the opposite side. Otherwise, yeah same thing.

Christ those are high strung, the automatic does better highway with the torque converter locked at 3.73/.734. Does anyone know if lower 5th gears are offered by anyone? Hopefully in the .4-.5:1 range.
