3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I went throught he offset thread and found some info on the fitment of rims with lip and sizes.
I just wanted to verify this setup with you guys to see if it will be ok.
Im going with MRR GT1 Rims black
These are the fitments available:
SIZE: 18x7.5 / 8.5 / 9.5
Now my plan was 18x7.5 front and 18x8.5 rear
Would that be ok once I roll the fenders?

why on earth would u put wider rims in the back if its a look thing then thats fine, but funtionality and cost wise it would be foolish. since it isnt RWD then theres no reason for extra wheel and tire to grip with on wheels that get no power. plus a 8.5 would be harder to fit. id stick with 7.5 all around. the offset would also be helpfull, ud prolly want somthing between 35 and 40mm u can certainly go higher but some rolling or spacing may be an order. i personally look down on FWD cars with wider rear wheels for looks, but if u like it im sure it would look origional.
Well it was mainly for looks of course there won't be any benefit to having wider rears. I'm still thinking about it, so going 7.5 all around is still an option.

18x7.5 40mm offset is perfect no fender rolling needed.
18x8.5 will only work with a 35mm offset... the tires might look "stuck out" at certain angles.
the tires would be another factor.
..this will be tough since a 235/245 tire would rub on the inside of the rear shock at times, a streched 225 tire would lend yourself to a bent rim or bulged/damaged sidewall after the first big pothole.
18x7.5 35-40mm offset 225 or 235/40/18 all around would be perfect.
I did try a similar set up on a 94 v6 LE camry 4 door
18x8.5 40mm offset 235/40/18
lowered 1.2 front 1.0 rear, rolled the fenders up, really up
inner sidewall of the tires rubbed the shocks at times.
if people, even kids were in the back seat I would rub/scape when going over some road dips and bumps. I even took out the spare tire/jack etc to lighten the load on the rear end.
finally switched to a 18x8 40mm offset 235/40/18 ...perfect
fat/thick rubber all aound, tire and rim width a perfect match/look and no rubbing or "scuooosh" sounds anymore. + I could rotate the tires still.
Thanks for the info guys. I guess I'll save the staggered setup for the supra.
Im gonna go with the 7.5 to be safe.
Less headache is also

Im sitting on 18x8.5 rims with 18 x 45 x 225 tires. I had to roll my fenders in the back, but that is partially because of my low drop. I like the wider tires it gives it more of an aggresive look but i have no idea why you would wanna put wider rims in the back on a FWD car????
If its the staggered look you are wanting, Axis has come out with a few sets of rims that are 8 inches all the way around but the offsets are different. You can use the same tires allthe way around, however you will not be able to rotate your rims and tires but will still able to rotate the tires themselves. I have seen these rims on a few different cars and I think they look good. So you are still keeping the same with all they way around the car but like I said the offets are different so it gives that staggered look. Look into it if that is what you are looking for.
Westcoast: I had wanted just the look, but it sounds like more trouble than its worth.
So you dont have troubles with the 18 x 8.5 and the tires you mentioned?
Becuase if thats the case then I can go with those.
But of course if I hit a pothole im probably fucked and in NY. There is no such thing as no potholes

yea man if i were you i would consider switching to 17" wheels because I live in the bronx and I know how the streets are around here and it's pothole city, also it would be cheaper and lighter too unless the rims you want only come in 18" then that sucks, so yea don't want you to have more headaches than you should want to see you finish that turbo project of yours lol.
though it is something to think about, potholes dont worry me. people on the road worry me.
The rims unfortunately dont come in 17.
So i'm basically left with three options.
1. Staggered 7.5 and 8.5
2. 7.5 all around with the thicker tires
3. 8.5 all around with the thinner tires
me has some pondering to do....
