Hey, just had a question here. On my 5sfe, when I go from 20 - 45 and up I get a slight burning smell (rotten eggs) what does that mean? I'm assuming I'm burning oil, but what can I do to fix that?
Actually, the sulphur smell is your catalytic converter. That is hydrogen sulfide, iirc, and it is a by-product of the catalytic action. Pretty normal in many cases? Have you ever followed a car too closely and smelled that? Why you are smelling it in your car is another question. Do you have any holes in your floor or trunk area? You will want to investigate this further. If you aren't experiencing power loss or an exceptionally hot Cat, then you might not need a new one.
No, I believe the interior is pretty sound, but I know for a fact that a lot of the exhaust parts are rusted and most likely have holes.
I know my exhaust manifold gasket is not entirely there, so I have a leak, and I'm pretty sure I need to replace my cat and exhaust. I already changed the flex pipe down there.
Can you guys suggest a good setup that will offer much better performance and sound than the stock setup? Also, if it still passes emissions would be a great thing. :P
I have always held that ANY exhaust discrepency should be fixed ASAP due to the chance of carbon monoxide. The fact that you tell us you can smell your cat and that various components of your exhaust system are intact would lead me to believe you need to visit Midas or Meinike(sp?)
You make a good point. But my question is are there performance cats and tailpipes that would sound and look better than what I have, and also be safe and pass emissions?
I had that when I first installed my headers and custom piping. Turns out that the cat was going bad and within a couple weeks the baffle inside blew out of it. There's still some stuck which is causing my car to sound ricey, but no Honda Ricey
Yeah, I definetly wanna replace my cat, and maybe get a catback for my car, but do you have to have a specific catback, or can shops make them all fit?
IM not sure if its my car or the outside air, but i smell that same rotten egg smell when when i shift into 2, and floor it until about 6000 RPMs going about 80 mph...is this is the cat or just outside smell?
I do this with the windows rolled up...but i dont smell that smell any where else even goign 80 on D (direct drive)
AUTOMATIC, 4cly...just in case you were confused

Strangley enough I smell that same rotten egg smell every now and then. Usually it's when I'm accelerating but it only happens like once a month. Should I be worried?
