Beep sound broken for doors need advice

Hi, I have the manufactures alarm system installed in my camry. And for a while its been broken.. but recently I brought my camry into Canadian Tires to install some stuff and I asked if they can also take a look on why my car doesnt make that beep sound you usually get when your unlocking or locking the door with your controller. Now i dont want to install a brand new alarm system as its costly and right now my budget is low. Anyways, the tech end up finding that my tiny little speaker in my camry that makes that sound is broken and he couldnt fix it as its the manufactures speaker. So, I was wondering if anyone knows, if I could bring it into the Toyota dealership and get the speaker fixed by the toyota tech's or would it be a waste of time? I have called the dealership before but for them to just "check" the problem they will charge me about $50us. So I rather know 100% that it can be fixed before making another call.

i'd buy a alarm kit on ebay fro a cheap price and stick in the speaker it brings...The toyota dealerships over prive costumers fro the simplest things. They wanted $6 for a new bulb in the A/C unit, just ONE. SO yea, if you want a new speaker thing, go on ebay and try to find something like that or be orginial, but a regular speaker in there, a small like a tweeter or something...it should bring your sound back

alrite thanks. I'm going to search on eBay and see if theres a similar one to mine.. and then im going to call the dealership tomorrow and ask what will be the cost to repair this.. im expecting a well over $50 haha just for the stupid labour cost while the speaker probably cost them $5. Seriously no wonder why dealership gets no business from older cars

im sorry to say i didnt. i paid the full $3.62 just to have one shipped. the part itself was only $7.98, so i would suggested to just order one directly from floydbell.com. $11.60 and about 10 minutes of your time is well worth it.

this is bullcrap. I called toyota dealership today and they said they have the part but will be special order which will cost me $50ca. THEN whats even more shocking for the labour fee their charging me $150ca!!!! Like what the heck!? Just to take out a little speaker on the dash and replacing with a new one which just requires 2 wires will cost me that much!? I'm never dealing with dealership shops ever again. What a rip off. With those 2 combined I could have gotten a way better alarm system.

is it actually your alarm that's broken? There is a way to disable the horn when activating and deactivating the alarm. It's a matter of pushing the valet button in a certain series. If this could be it, let me know and I'll find out the sequence.

Ok, dpanda, is this a problem with the door chime (as the thread title states) or your alarm?

If this is for your alarm, and you have a factory alarm on a 97 camry, then I don't know why you or your tech is looking for a random speaker or horn somewhere in the dash. On the Gen4s that I've seen, the OE alarm is connected to the car's horn, not even a piezo speaker under the hood.

Just to clarify, your alarm sets properly, the lights flash, there is no sound from the horn, and you see the valet button near the dash dimmer switch blink intermittently. The alarm is also working properly in that you can set it off, the horn honks, and lights flash, and then when you disable it, the car honks in a pattern to signify a possible entry attempt. If you disable the alarm normally, then the lights flash, but the horn does not honk.

If this is all correct, then as I understand it the problem that you are then having is that your horn does not honk when you either set or disable your alarm and you want to fix that.

Is this correct?

If it is, then the only thing I could think is that someone set it to activate and deactivate silently. This is corrected by starting the the valet button in the off or out position. Turn the key from on back to off, and within 10 seconds, push the valet in and out 6 times. If this was the problem, you should hear 1 honk signaling that this has worked.

Camryman, do the same thing.

Basically thats the problem. My lights still switch on and off when i unlock and lock and my dash still shows the lights saying its unlocked and locked. But instead of the honk you mention its more of a beep sound. And whats the valet? Sorry I'm not to fimilar with car phrases/words as you can already see with my questions I will try your method and see if it will work. And I exactly I have a feeling it is deactivated because sometimes I can exactly hear a slight beep sound but its very silent. We'll see how it goes

you confused me there

so when i go to do it i want the key on the "on" position before i do it and the valet button sticking out and then turning the key to "off" and wait 10 secs and then push the button in and out 6 times and then it should work?? just making sure i understood correctly
