I had painted ones on my gen 3 for a while, looked pretty good... just make sure you only paint the back of them and leave the fender side black, then they should look pretty nice...
You need to do a lot of sanding and have a very durable clear coat or else the paint will chip and crack on you, thats what happened to mine after a few months.
I took mine off my old gen3...looked ALOT better...however, my paint was no where near as good as yours, so it would get rid of the protection they give you
