toyota various questions

okay well y'all know that i'm a new toyota tech trying to learn as much as i can before i go to school..

well my question is how does a immbolizer work.. like today i had to cut a key.. and the car didn't want to start i know u use the scantool but how does that all work out..

okay today we had to recalibrate a ecu for a 01 rav 4 because there was a TSB/recall..

how does recalibrating it work... also is it true u need to put a jumper booster on the battery so the ecu doesn't get less than 11v.. is it true while your recalibrating the ecu and if u turn any accessory on.. or do anything it will fire the ecu?

also i was doing alignment today on a HUNTER DSP400 i think and what does camber, toe, and caster mean.. like how is that all about i don't think you can adjust caster can you.. anyways try to give me a scenario or example of all 3 thanks

i appreicate to anyone who can handle these questions..

camber is like if your looking at a car from the front and to what degree the tires are tilted like the top of the tire sticks out more than the bottom and toe is Ithink how far out it is, and caster I don't remember, just google it and you'll find stuff

Ecu

HELLO !

Calibrating an ECU must be just the same as updating any Micro-Processor based computing Device.

If the DC Power Source falls below the minimum , you can corrupt the data transfer and consequently lose the computer's functions . In PC maintenance we are cautioned to not start or stop the supply voltage or conduct any other function while BIOS updates are being made as ths will render the PC Computer unusable .

Maybe the situation is the same for your ECU?

We all know that batteries are not usually reliably consistent power sources . I can see the need for Aux. Power or sometjing to make sure the base Voltage doesn't fall below 11 Volts . After all any DATA Transfer, Automotive or Personal Computers still rely on a voltage shift between Zero and the upper supply Voltage to make a digital "1" pr "0" . This is the basis for all data transfers 1's and 0's ... off and on ... Even the most Powerful CRAY Computer still relies on 1's and 0's to transfer data .

camber, caster and toe are independant of each other.

toe - points the front of the wheels in and out. if the toe is off, the car will pull and either the bottom inside or outside of the tire will wear unevenly.
camber - the tilt of the tire. whether the top of the wheel is leaning towards or away from the car. i could be wrong on this, but this helps with cornering.
caster - basically how the upper and lower ball joints line up to each other. i really dont know how this effects steering, but my guess is that you will feel it when the car is turning and cornering.
