Cone Intake Filters?

I have a 92' 5FSE and im planning to get a new intake system over the spring break. What im planning to get is a short ram intake system. I know that a CAI has denser air which means increase in HP but a short ram only gives you the sound, which is basically what im really looking for. So heres the question, if I buy a cheap short ram intake and it comes with a filter, should i upgrade my filter to a opened top filter or without opened top? Whats the difference between the opened top filters and without opened top filters?

Without Opened Top

With Open Top

theres really no difference between the two.

have someone tell u what the difference between the shitty cone filters and the expensive ones because i don't think you need to upgrade your filter from the one that comes with the cheap sri. (anyone here know the diff between the ones that come with the bobo ebay sri and the brand name k&n filters ?)

Theres barely any difference besides the sound and look. They claim that they allow more air flow, but in reality the engine doesnt even reach the max CFM of the cheaper cones.

The big plus I see is that with cones and K&N filters, is that you just need to clean them, you dont have to buy new ones.

It really doesn't matter. Oh and I feel a difference with a SRI in throttle response, it isn't just noise at all. It makes it much easier to breather as opposed to a whole plastic box, then tubing that isn't smooth. Dude you could get a Injen IS2020P for about 180$ shipped from Summit, it will come with a K&N filter, it just says its Injen, and it makes a difference. It says it is for the Gen 4 but you just cover two vacuum hose outlet mock up a little support and you've got an intake that sounds great and gives you power.

If you get an Injen SRI, you get two free stickers and a license plate frame.
