3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I did some searching but couldnt find them for sale anywhere. Does anyone know where I could get the TRD Supercharger for the 1MZ-FE? I've also seen some people here who have it, and I was wondering if you had any comments on it, such as ease of install (compared to turbo), and performance.
there are only a couple people who have installed a trd S/C on the gen 3 camry. the 1mz from 94-96 is slightly different then the 97-01. as a result most people who have done it have problems with getting it to function properly(ecu, tranny and egr problems). i was actually thinking of doin it but id only do it if i got a 97+ 1mz to avoid the hassle of gettin it right on a 150k motor.
they're very hard to find since there out of production, ebay and the classifides on here and solaraguy are ur best bet.
I know eye8 has a TRD Supercharger in his camry, along with a few other members here. I would probably bring it to a shop and have them install it. Do you think a Toyota dealer would do it?
And im looking at spending anything upwards of $1500.
^ Thats as him going ALL the labor, since he knows what he;s doing. It wouls likely be $1k to have a mechanic install it, since there is some custom work. Toyota would not even touch it. A used SC it around $1k.

geoff5093 I recommend you start looking at other cars. Camry's are nice cars, they are reliable but they are not fast. You can make them fast yes, but the lack of aftermarket support means:
1. few people know about them
2. performance parts are either custom (DIY), godawful expensive, or you have to find someone that will do it for a decent price, then you have to take the car to them.
I bought my Grand Prix after I turbod the Celica (check the sig for my cars.) check out www.zzperformance.com and you will see what I am talking about as far as aftermarket support for a car. They have everything listed on that site to build a reliable daily driven 11 second car. And a lot of people have done so with them. From near stock cars jst wanting a little more performance, to all out drag cars there is after market catering to them. Not so for the Camry's.
Go check out a WRX, EVO, SS Cobalt, something along those lines. Insurance is not as bad as you think, they are all fun cars, and have tons of potential for the beginner modder.

The 1mz-fe superchager doesn't bolt to your v6.
You'll have to machine the housing, to fit, and fix problems with the throttlebody, and IAC valve.

for anything, anytime; including camry turbos Now with Turbo!
Since I use my car a lot for both work and school, I guess i'll keep it semi-stock, and buy a car which has a larger market for it, I just wanted to make my car stand out from the rest of the Camry's. When I was checking out Mustang forums when I was thinking of buying one, they had quite a few performance mods, including some nice turbos, but they were around $4-5K.
