Hey, i just got the short ram for my camry. I've read the forums on the instalation but i still have a couple of questions.
What are those 2 hoes for which are inside the factory air filter box or whatever. The short ram doesnt have any hole besides one for the air temp sensor. So i am wondering what should i do to those tubes?
Yeah, i understand its hot air but ur not just getting HP because of the air temperature, the purpose of short ram is that air flows faster between the cycles of the engine, and supposetly the tube size and lengh make a difference here. with short ram u should be able to cram more air into cylinders and get more hp ...am i wrong?
tubing's just as big at the throttle body, and you're not getting "ram air" anyways, unless its in direct airflow, and there's no scoop so you're not going to pick much up
the filter does the bit of helping, usually an oiled filter which means that it dosen't have to be as fine letting the air through a bit easier
the only way the short cone intake is going to make the car faster is because it willsound really cool and loud so it will make you drive more aggressively and use up more gas... trust me, i have one on my 94
so what you all saying is that short ram is pretty much useless...besides the sound it makes??? Depressing shit, i spent 60 bucks on this thing. Oh well. Anyway to install it, can someone tell me what the hell do i need to do with those 2 hoses which the short ram doesnt have any holes to plug em in into....Put a infinity bass link it my car recently, doesnt sound as loud as i thought it would.
there shouldnt be any HOSES to your intake... you connect the rubber coupler to the throttle body and then all you have is a tube with 1 hole in it and the cone filter which connects to the tube. the 1 hole is for the sensor. you shouldnt have tubes! anyways, what is this clear thing you are talking about, clear taillights? i have a set of those whats the big deal... i dont use them either... anyways... what is this link??
if you have extra tubes coming out of the new intake pipe and you don't need them since your car only needs the hole for the O2 sensor. just go to your local automotive store and ask them for "vacuum caps" and put them over the nipple(s) on the pipe.
the intake you bought might be the same one for another car that has the same shape but uses the extra hoses.
i was reading a couple other forums, they keep talking about couple more tubes they found in the factory air intake system and they didnt know where to "stick" em. Do u have a short ram? or have u ever installed one ur self?
So, basicly they are useless??? Should i just send it back?

One hose goes from the vent on the side of the valve cover to the intake. Theres suppose to be a nipple on your intake for the hose.
The other is for the IAT (intake air temperature) sensor. You can leave it unplugged, but I would plug it into the intake cos the ecu uses it for ignition timing retard / advance.
Remove the rubber grommet (the one the IAT plugged into) from your stock intake, drill a hole into your new intake pipe, and install grommet and IAT.
