5-speed bearings & synchros=$700?!?!? help

I have a v6 5speed and the synchros are gone on 4th and 5th gear. The tranny is apart and the transmission shop is getting a supplier quote at $700 for a bearings and synchros kit. the dealer wants to sell me each of the bearings and synchros separately at about $500 out the door.
Is there a cheaper way to get these parts?

for that price, you can basically pick up a used tranny down there in the states....things cost a lot more up here in Canada, but in the US, you can find a tranny for under or around 500

bump...
Any suggestions? Dealers that give discounts on parts?

I tried the used route: $500 to $1000 plus shipping depending on mileage. I can replace the wear parts for less than the cost of a high mileage used tranny with shippinng. I am mostly hoping someone has a lead on cheap parts.

thanks
