you lost becuase your car is a lot heavier and not as sporty as a honda civic as for performance its not much u can do besides a turbo but that expensive u can get small gains from and sir and a exhuast system

...welcome to TN...join the crowd.

first of all, was his manual? is urs? the dx civic is about 500lbs lighter then the camry so u got a problem right there. there isnt much for the camry as far as performance, there is a ripp supercharger kit for sale in the for sale section . this may help get u started.
http://www.toyotanation.com/faq/all_...prog=1&lang=en

the camry has poor potential unless ur willing to put in the time and money to do custom stuff. enjoy the knoledge that ur car is worth more then ur firends.

Hmm......the DX weights about 2400 lbs and has a 106hp engine....on the other hand....your car weights around 3200 lbs with 136 hp....doing the power to weight ratio...your cars are approximately equal...maybe its the transmission which is not putting down enough horsepower compared to the Civic ...correct me if I am wrong

Also, one driver may be worse then the other. Power Braking can make a differnce. Gearing ont he Auto. Power loss due to age/wear/lack of maintmence.

i'm gunna say the camry's transmission is less efficient.

i think it's dyno time! lol.

my v6 against a 01 integra ls (non "vtak"); auto vs. manual were neck and neck.
I know that when someone dynoed their stock v6 solara they got about 160hp to the wheels from the 194hp engine. major loss...

My camry has about 125k miles and ive beat old and new civics so i dont know why you would be losing against a 98 civic. my mods are in my sig and i didnt notice a difference with any of them except when my engine was bored but even before all that ive never lost to a civic! i think with the numbers each car puts down that they should be about dead even but like everyone said, a lot of factors come into play.

The 194 number is based out of the engine anyways... 160 is the number for wheel horsepower. Which isnt really to bad of a difference, but that gives you some knowledge as to what other cars should be too. Given each car maker lists the highest hp rating (which is at the crank)
