The title says it all, I'm trying to decide if it's worth the extra $100. I'm getting either dropzone or Intrax springs. Want handling, don't mind a rougher ride. How much difference is there? Give me some reason's to convince my Dad the Tokicos are the better bet if you think it's worth it
tokicos are performance shocks, kybs are cheap, oem style and i havnt seen them hold up very well compared to tokicos. go with tokicos unless ur looking for a slightly stiffer than stock ride. just tell ur dad the tokicos will last longer, cuz its true.

So kyb's are crap??? I hate that, just bought 4 and HR's for the coupe...too late!! there on it!
The ride is definitely stiffer than stock!

^eyeball, kyb's aren't crap. they're just not made with handling in mind. its a balance between handling and comfort (unless ur opinion is: no handling = crap, good handling = very good)
u want to know which is better ? better is an opinion, so i'm just going to tell you the difference between the two
the camry out of the factory uses KYB so if you get KYBs, they'll be more comfortable than if you got the tokicos because tokicos are for performance. that also means that KYB will provide you will less handling. to sum it up.. less handling, more comfort
tokicos will be the opposite... they're stiffer and you will feel more irregularities in the road. however it give you more handling. more handling, less comfort
oh wait sorry... i just remembered in ur post.. u said u don't mind losing comfort but u want handling.. umm go with tokicos then =]
good luck
how much is your total setup going to be ? remember if you have a lot of miles, u have to replace the strut mounts too. if the rubber boots are going out of shape, u want to replace those too cause they'll eventually rip in half

i gotta admit i am kinda hard on KYBs but with good reason, out of 5 of my close friends, that right 5, 4 have complained and had to replace their shocks after at most 2 years. i personally wouldnt want to get the KYBs simply because ur paying for a ride thats not a whole lot stiffer and a quality thats not up to par when comapred to other brands IMO. its true u get what u pay for. i still say stiffer ride = tokicos.
note: 2 of the five are heavy into autoX and went through their set(not in a camry) in a year.
Ok...I just had HR sports, and KYB's installed on the coupe thursday! The ride is definitely not OEM...I lost the smooth ride, but it looks and handles alot better than before. I like it!!

I have the Eibach/Kyb setup. The ride is a tad bit stiffer than stock but now that I think about it, I wish I had gotten the Tokico's. I don't really care about ride quality, I just want improved handling.

wait till the springs settle in...
like corruptninja i now wish i had gotten tokico's instead of kyb.
ur friends complain about the kybs bigbird ? hmm maybe i gotta get my facts straight ;p
i personally haven't used them so what i say about them isn't 100% correct lol
but yeah. kyb's are stiffer than stock because since you've used the stock's for a while, they kind of degrade. thats why when you get kyb's they feel stiffer. because i'm PRETTY sure toyota uses kybs.... unles ur talkin about the kyb gr2, is that what its called ? then THAT one is upgraded.
hey, the people who got kybs, seem to regret it =P that means go for the tocikos ~!!
good luck bro
venom, if ur boot is ripped, get new ones.. unless ur shock is stock and u want to get aftermarket as soon as possible but want a reason to lol. then dirt will get all up in ur shock and ruin it and then u can get urself some tokicos ;]
but otherwise.. replace the boots.

Well, I bought lowering springs today (Intrax, $80 new on Ebay, let's hope it pans out, it was from a new store with not much in the way of sales, but I'm using paypal so if anything goes south I'm safe.), and I'm going with the Tokicos because of Bigbird's friend's problems, and because I've heard that the GR-2's aren't mean't for lowered cars. My dad took some convincing to get the lowering springs, I think I got him when I found some oem replacements that cost twice as much at a few online stores . Now all I need is some rims!
