3rd Generation Cupholder help

I decided that it's time to replace the front cupholders in my '92 Camry. I bought an exact replacement for them.

I'm running into some trouble, though. I've tried a few ways to remove the old cupholder module, but I can't remove it. I figured out that the first step is to remove the ashtray that's above the cupholders.

Do I need to remove the plastic molding from around the air conditioning/radio/cupholder area?

If so, how?

You need to remove the entire unit. Hope your ready:

This is off the TOP of my head, so here it goes.

1: Using flat head screwdriver, pop off the shifter trim, unscrew the 2 screws.
2: Unbolt the 2 bolts inside the center storage unit.
3: From the fromt of the center console that touches the shifter, pull it STRIGHT UP. There is plastic L shaped things holding up. Then pull back towards back of car. Not that is removed.

4: Remove bottom trim in the drivers footwell.
4A: Remove the coin tray, and then using a phillips, unscrew the 2 screws holding the coin try bracket, and remove. Then unscrew the 1 screw behind that.
4B: Using a flat head, pop off the 2 plastic pieces coning 2 of the bolts (1 is square, other is a rectangle). Unscrew those 2. The other 2 are at both bottom corners. Remove.
4C: Unscrew the phillips screw behind it holding on the entire unit.

5: Remove the same stuff on the pass side footwell (Im a little blurry on this and may miss a couple screwa, but it is easier)
5A: Remove corner kick panel.
5B: Pull down the black plastic piece (it's just clips)
5C: There is 2 philips screws I THINK. One on each side of the color trim piece. Unscrew them, and remove it.
5D: Same as 4C. Unscrew the screw holding on the main unit.

6: remoce the 2 plastic screw like things on the main unit. One on each side on the bottom front curve. They will likely break, so do not be alarmed. It;s a bitch to get out.
7: Remove it. Jiggle it to loosen it up It will only be attached at the top under the radio. Pull E-Brake, and shift to L gear to allow for removal room. Remove the Ashtray Bulb before you take the unit out.
8: Unscrew the cup holder, and reverse steps for assemply.

Holy crap, I hope that helps.......

I've had mechanics tell me that pretty much everyone breaks them that tries to take them out, I guess I got lucky...

They are a bitch, but I've done enough. Takes like 15 seconds to remove them properly now.

^ Hit up a local pick and pull and see what you can find there. Just bring your own tools.
