4th Generation DAM U KSPORT & Your Big Brake Kit...

Whats up guys, I figured all you tech experts can answer the questions I have about this big brake install. The Ksport Techs has been hard to get a hold of recently, maybe on vacation i dont know. Anyways I have listed them below. The instructions i recieved from them suck because it leaves to many questions and room for error which is not good when it comes to brakes...Also thru up some pics so you can see what they look like, just fitted of couse...

1. Apperantly my 19in rim does not clear the caliper. What would you recommend for a spacer, 2-3mm? I dont need much space but need something. Is this going to affect the braking performance/handling? I would have to assume when doing the drum to disc brake swap in the rear (Because this is a 4cly) I am going to need a spacer there also? Ive only seen H&R spacers and 5mm was the lowest. Maybe a custom one needs to be made?

2. When fitting the caliper onto the rotor. Is there a recommended clearance between the brake pads and the rotor? Should the brake pads fit snug against the rotor when test fitting, because mine do not. I would have to assume that because there is no brake pressure the caliper is not compressing the brake pads to the rotor.

3. Should I use the stock shims with the brake pads to close the gap between the rotor and the pads or are they not necessary.

sick kit!

You definately need spacers. Can you tell how much space you need? 5mm isnt that thick and i think you will probably need that much. It will affect the look and feel of the car but in a sense it should be better because it gives the car a widerfoot print. You may need spacers for both front and rears.

The pads don't have to fit snug right now. The pistons on the caliper should be recessed. Once you bleed the system the pistons will come out applying pressure to the pads.
The kit you bought came with pads i believe. Do not try to use any old brake components with the new ones such as re-using the shims.

edit - technically i think a 17inch rim would fit the kit, but its all about offsets, and thats why you're going to need spacers because i think your rims have too much of a negative? offset.

Thanks nodrogkam, thats what i figured but i just wanted to be sure before i go out and buy anything. I believe 5mm spacers will be plenty. I mocked up a 5mm spacer yesterday and I might need new lug studs. Any thoughts an that?

To answer your question MICO417 i got it from peter in the group buy section. I got a decent deal. Im hoping to pick up some type of sponsorship thru ksport but thats not likely until i finish more work. I'll definitly do a write up after the rears get installed. I cant wait to finish...bbk's all around are going to look sweet and perform well!!

how much of the studs are still left? If ur tuner lugs are anything like the factory lugs i have, then they go past the surface of the rim and about 3mm deeper. I dont know what the rule is on how much thread you should have left for the lugs but i guess if you feel unsafe, you may want to get new studs. I believe most people are fine without new studs. This really isnt my specialty.

Good luck tho!
