3rd Generation 2nd Gear is not smooth!!

when my car is not warm up, it is kind of hard to shift into the 2nd gear. But after it is warmed up, it is easier to shift. Let me try to be more specific, it feels like i am going to grind the gears if I shift. Do I have a synco problem? Since I am going to replace my engine soon, what are the options I have? get another tranny?

Please help~!!

have you checked the oil level for the trans? i know with manuals it not really necessary to change the gear oil much, but maybe its worth a shot to get some fresh oil in there before spending serious money.

If you have a manual, I think the way to change it is in the Haynes manual. I read it briefly, but it said something about removing a plug, and filling the trans until it is right below the filler hole.

yeah, there are two plugs. one on the bottom to drain and one on the side that is the fill hole. just like what snipeddude said, you fill it until fluid reaches the bottom of the fill hole and starts to drip out.

extremely important caution - if you decide to replace the gear oil, make sure you can remove the fill plug before you pull the drain plug! ive read about so many people draining manual transmissions (and differentials, and transfer cases...) who drained the fuild out but couldnt open the fill hole to put new fluid back in.
