3rd Generation 93 Camry - Noise Behind AirBag & Washer Fluid Pump

Hi All,

I have a 1993 Camry V6, I have a rapid clicking noise (sounds like wire shorting/touching metal) behind the driver side airbags whenever I turn the steering wheel. It happens whether I'm driving or parked. If the steering wheel is not in the straight ahead position, the car will not start unless I turn the steering wheel to the left or right. I've spoke to numerous mechanics and they couldn't diagnosis the problem. Some say it's the Ignition Safety Switch, others don't know.

Anyone else having this problem??

Second question:

There is no windshield washer fluid coming out of the noozle when I press the spray button on the wiper control arm. The wipers works but no washer fluid.
The washer pump is not making any noise so I'm assuming the pump is faulty.
Could dirt or small debri clog the inlet hole and render the pump inoperative or do I have to replace the unit? Anyway to test the unit?

Thanks in Advance,

1st Q:

Not a certain idea, but just info on it. The Camry has a locking steering wheel for safety. When the key is not in the ign, and you try to turn the wheel, at a certain point it will lock. And you need to insert the key to get the wheel unlocked. I'd bet your issue lies there, but thats as far as I can go. Sorry.

2nd Q:

Even if the nozzles are clogged, the pump still works. I'd think that there is a possibility that it is linked to your steering wheel issue, as the wires go through it, and maybe something got cut by whatever is making the clicking noise. That, or the pump just went bad. But I'd have the steering wheel fixed before the pump, in case that is where the issue lies.

I've got a '95 Camry 4 cylinder and I have a rapid clicking noise coming from behind the passenger side airbag. Been like this for about two years and it's really annoying. Happens all the time whenever the care is moving, has nothing to do with steering.

It sort of does sound like a relay. If I press on the airbag in one of the corners, I can pretty much make it go away. Perhaps I'm moving a wire when I press the bag? Or maybe there is something loose.
