My wife has a 95' LE and the previous owner had a remote start/keyless entry system put it in. The remotes are crapping out and I can't seem to locate replacements, so I am debating putting a new system in. I have never done any under dash wiring before, and would normally not attempt it, but being that their already is a system in there I am contemplating giving it a shot. If all the wirirng is there, it shouldn't be too difficult to follow and replace the system with a new one, right?
I'm pretty much looking for some advice from those that have done an nstall before as to if I should give it a shot or pay the $270 and have Best Buy install a new system. If there is anyway I could splice the existing systems wiring and copnnect it to the new "brain," I think that would be doable, I just don't know enough about the systems and instll to know if this is feasable or not.....What do you think.... I know if it haddn't already had a system in it I would have a pro install it, but being that the wiring is already there, it's tempting to give it a shot!
I just done it two weeks before. You have to compare the two system and find out what diff they are. Most wire will be remain the same. But you still have to find out some special wire they are not used in the old system. So, on the other hand, if your new system is using the same wire as before. You just need to figure out which is which and hook it up.
But if I were going to the work of installing a new system, I would get one with a remote starter. I think you can get decent ones on Ebay for $70 on up. But they are harder to wire up.
And lastly, you should be able to find a replacement remote on Ebay for around $25-35, which would be a lot less work than installing a new system.
Whoops, sorry didn't realize this was for an aftermarket unit. In that case, I understand why you can't find a replacement remote.
It shouldn't be too hard to wire up a new unit, since all the wires have already been tapped, but still you'll need to figure out what each wire is for, unless you can find the wiring diagram for your existing unit.

Even though the system is not OEM, you should still be able to get new remotes for the system. Do you know the vendor? It should be on the remotes. Look up the vendor and go to their website. Try to find a dealer in your area and give them a call or contact the vendor directly. Last year I got a new remote for the DEI keyless entry system on my 94 Camry. One had gone bad, the other still worked, so I new it was the remote. That would be cheaper and a lot less work than installing a totally new system, IMHO.
