Thumbs down Weird noise....

I have found that after about 3000 rpm, my cars starts making a weird noise like something in the engine is vibrating at incredible speed, a kindof high pitched ragged humming, like leaving a metal ruler on top of a construction generator (if any of you know what this sounds like). I rev it out of gear and it doen't make the noise. So is it my clutch or what (which is starting to slip badly) I would rather it be the soon to be replaced clutch then say, a valve or rod or some other ulcer causing concern.

Have you checked all the heat shields. They have a tendancy to come loose and cause a vibration at various RPM's.
