3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My camry recently been having a hard time to start it up.
most of the time when i tried to start the car up it will just die straight away.
Key in-->turn--->hears a click, and the belt spinning abit--> it dies. I have start her 3 times at least to get it going. (it happens the first time i start the car everyday. So once the engine is started, I have no problem turning it off and starting her again.) (I'll try to post a Video, can't do it today as i already started her up)
I'm confused and I don't know what's wrong with it.
Ive reset the ECU and still doing it. The battery is still in good condition.
My brother told me it might be the key (it has the chip for the immobilizer, its the OEM key), But i told him that couldnt be. I'm thinking it might be the starter...
Can someone give me an advise what i should do?
Kind Regards,
Leasaunce
^This is a video of it. You'll hear "tick" twice then the 4rd time it started...
My uncle's Accord did something similar for a while. I never messed with it and I haven't driven that car in a about a year so I don't know if it still does that or if he fixed it. Someone told me it's the IAC.
The car would do this at random times, not only when it was cold. I could drive 10 miles and then park for 20 minutes and it would not idle. Or sometimes it would just happen in the morning.
When you start up the car, can you keep it running by pressing and holding down the gas slightly? That was the only way I could keep the Accord idling.
as i turn the key, i hear click (the belt of something is also spinning just for a second) and the engine wouldnt start, so i have to switch it off and try turning the key again. (i do this about 2 times then it starts)
i have no problem with idling, just the car wouldnt start up. I think i might have confused you.
Low battery probably, during the day it holds enough charge from the alternator, but over night it loses it's charge from sitting. It may also be from the cold, the lower temperatures cause the battery to not be able to supply as much current (Chemical reaction slows down)
Have you had the battery tested? If your battery has a little colored "eye", it does not tell you anything about the condition of the battery other than the water level.
I'm having a similar problem... Every now and then after i start the car in the mornings as soon as i put it in reverse it dies but it starts right back up so i figured it couldnt be the battery cause once the alternator is on the battery pretty much doesnt have much more work to do as far as the engine is concerned (i'm going to have it checked today though)...
I'm thinking the car is idling too low... I had a similar problem with my camry lumiere back home (google it... i bet u have never seen that camry before )... But it was in stop and go traffic when u turn on the ac the car would idle lower and turn off... We ended up just puttin it in neutral when we stopped... until the ac died
So yeah check ur battery and check where ur car is idling... thats my two cents
I had the EXACT symptoms...EXACT...EXACT Symptoms....my battery light was totally blue ie still good? So I tested the volts...it was like 7.5-8.5...just enought to give a False "still blue/still good reading" on the circle color window.
So I Changed battery anyway.
$69.00 DieHard Gold 775 CCA (a little over the top, but I live in Chicago Freezing Temps)
The car is like new. It fires up better than my GS400.
^ Like I said in my previous post, the color indicator on the top of the battery does not indicate the charge or condition of the battery. It only tells whether or not you need to add water.
You cannot tell how much power the battery is putting out by just looking at it.
ok, took the car to the mechanic last weekend. changed the pads, they said that one of the Leads might be dead, cause the engine is misfirring, can this cause the problem???
