blown engine

My 1999 Camry, 4 cylinder blew today as i drove out of a supermarket driveway, just got out of the intersection and "boom", engine died out. Saw oil splatter in the under the hood. I found a 1/4" x 1" hole to the right of the oil filter. Looks like a blown connecting rod? Is this common for year? I took it to the toyota dealer in January for inspection of the sludge shit and they said there was nothing wrong. I get some smoke from the exhaust cold starting sometimes. What's my choices here? My brother is gonna do an engine swap.

GD! My 1st thought was actually sludge.

Get a 1999 V6 totaled, and swap the engine and front suspension in as a whole. Subframe and all.

thats not common for a 1999 at all, i dont believe

that sucks ... but like ASG said, engine swap from a body-totalled Gen4 would be the way to go

Pull the valve cover and check for sludge. When you take the engine apart take a close look at all the parts plus oil galleries for plugging. The bottom end is extremely reliable unless run out of oil or hot rodded to excess. White smoke at cold start could have been just worn valve stem seals, very common.
