Ok, So im gonna be putting HID's on my gen 4 pretty soon........ No not the fake imitation blue bulbs.... I already have those haha. I got sick of the whole fake HID look so im gonna be getting the real thing. I just wondered if anyone else with a gen 4 on here has HID's im wondering if they have had any problem with the glare since were not projectors. My car is pretty low so i dont think ill have any problems with shining into peoples eyes but, Always good to hear from someone whos already dealt with any issues. Any help is appreciated.
My H4/9003 Hi-Low beam is going to be replaced by the H4 HID low beam only kit.
I dont have a Gen4, but my Gen3 doesnt have much glare at all, I never get flashed and it doesnt look anything like some of the youtube videos and online photos.
I have a Gen 4 and I recently put in an H4 HID Conversion Kit, low beam only, like the one you're planning to use...
I don't get flashed at all, and as geoff5093 said, it doesn't look at all as many pics. I've seen before...
They actually light the street ahead of me MUCH MUCH better than normal bulbs.. I've had them for a while now and I do most of my driving at night and I haven't been flashed once...
I also got an H3 HID Conversion Kit for my Fog lamps... All together looks great..
look at the Kaixen HID thread at the vendor area, i believe they have H4 bulbs with both high and low fillaments along witha cap on the tip of the hid to reduce the glare effect, allowing you to more safely use hid without projectors.
well i had the H4 6000k hid kit installed before.. I didnt get any trouble or pull over (this is without retrofit) But then again the whole city up here in GTA are 3/4 ALL HID's from all ranges so people dont care much anymore. But yeah I was on the same step as you before.. which was purchasing the fake HID look bulbs... I still have them onr ight now but I have like a HID H4 8000k kit right beside me that I haven't installed yet (due to exams) but when its all done I be
and for the glare.. it really depends on the other drivers.. if their an ass they may honk you or flash at you... but I never had that problem yet so far with the 6000k before... Sometimes you cant really tell if its either retrofit or not so who cares haha but note just to be safe... dont go behind a cop
ALSO... if your headlights are still factory headlights and not the crystal clear ones the glare wont be high.. cuz for some reason our gen 97 98 headlights have a frost shield in front which reduces the glare by a bit.

yea i went to HID planet and they dont want me to do it unless i did a retrofit but i dont really want to do that
so if i got lets say some 6000K kit i should be alright and should i not worry about hi beams cause the regular will be much brighter
btw i have a 97 camry with stock housings with halogen bulbs i might get fake HID or better brand bulbs until i have money saved up cause i hate my halogens

I have the 5000K and they are blue enough for me, sometimes even too blue! I dont have a pic of it lighting up the road yet, but this is what it looks like when I just installed it:
so in my case would stock headlight housings be fine
are the clear ones better for it or worse im kinda confused
I have DEPO clear headlights, but unlike the stock headlights, the DEPO ones have a cover that the bulb goes into, so that may be part of the reason why you dont have as much glare as a completly wide open HID bulb.
^
gen 4 ones dont exsist anymore or not for sale anywhere. The only way to get these is to customize your own or find someone who has them if your lucky to find one.
seriously I dont see the difference on retrofit and non retrofit especially on the old cars aka ours. If your driving and you see HID on the other side of the road heading your way.. It looks like it doesnt have retrofit when your far away but when your close up it is. The reason why I say this is because in the new cars today most of the headlights are rounded and not like ours which is one full headlight. So even if you retrofit your camry headlight.. it will still look the exact same as not having one and the glare would still be high. So why waste $200 on getting retrofit.
and yes having clear headlights increases the glare.. hense the word "clear". While the stock headlights has some texture on it which reduces somewhat of glare.

do you know where i can find clear housings for my gen the single bulb housings
i know they have gen 4.5 housing but i havent found gen 4
my friend, he went to a shop and did it. headlights, the outer lights (signal) and fog lights all have clear lens. i think it costs around $100 for both headlights.
Wow thanks for the incredibly fast responses to this.... I have Clear Depo housings on my 97 i bought them probably close to 2 years ago. Im going to be going with the 8000k bulbs, I dont think ill have a problem due to the ride height of my car but i figured it couldnt hurt to ask if anyone else has had problems with glare before. As soon as my tax refund arrives the HID's are going to be ordered and then i will install them and get pictures up ASAP. Thanks for all the replies guys.
